<tip category="kdissert">

... that kdissert creates makefiles to help compiling the LaTeX documents generated ?

Make sure that you have tetex-latex installed, and run "make" in the directories created.

... that it is easier to work with the kdissert window maximized ?

It is recommended to maximize the kdissert window when working, and to write down as many ideas as possible before trying to link. This usually leads to more structured mindmaps, and more productive work.

You can type the summary directly in the mindmap view when one object is selected.
When no object is currently selected, the object that was selected last is used.

The shortcut control+scroll wheel can increase or decrease the fonts of the selected objects.

In select mode, double clicking with the control key held disconnect an object from its parent.
Still in select mode, clicking sequentially on two objects with the control key held links them.

... why there are no "copy" or "paste" features ?

Kdissert does not have copy or paste for several reasons.
Kdissert is about encouraging the creation
of new concepts and ideas. The need for copy and paste shows
that the ideas are not clear enough (break the symmetries !).
Concerning the document generation, it is also much
more informative to begin a title by "The cat and the mouse"
instead of "Part II", "Part III"...
To use enumerations, add them in the text box, and rework the
document generated a bit.

.. that Knowit and Freemind files can be imported into kdissert ?

Kdissert can import Knowit and Freemind files by the file->open dialog. The trees that appear may not look attractive, in this case it is possible to re-organize them by right-clicking onto the mindmap view and select "tidy all"

.. how to move trees in the mindmap view easily ?

While holding a group of mindmap items with the left mouse button, use the scroll wheel or the arrow keys to move in the mindmap view.

.. that there are two major shortcuts in the tree view (panel on the left) ?

When an item is selected, they key 'O' demotes it, and the key 'P' promotes it.

.. that you can type the summary directly ?

When an item is selected, type the summary using the keyboard. There is no cursor, but one can use the backspace key to make corrections.

.. that you can move mindmap objects using the keyboard ?

By maintaining the alt key pressed, use the arrow keys to move the objects

.. that you can browse mindmap trees using the keyboard ?

Use the shortcut ctrl+comma to change the selected tree. By maintaining the control key held and the arrows, one can move in the mindmap tree.

Double-click with ctrl key pressed on links removes them. Double-click with ctrl key pressed on an object disconnects it from its parent. Clicking sequentially on items with ctrl key held links objects.

Use the keys F2 and F3 to switch the focus between the text panel and the map. Also do not forget to maximize the text panel using the little square on the top-right corner :-)

.. that it is possible to drop text on the map or into map objects ?
